About Rob
Rob in a Nutshell
Robin James Adams is a design researcher and occasional interaction designer working and living in San Francisco, California. He currently specializes in designing the tools and technologies that other designers use to build the products we use every day. Along the way, he's picked up a variety of other skills including programming, public speaking, writing, teaching, Machiavellian politics, and iconoclasm.
Rob works for Adobe Systems, Inc. (formerly Macromedia, Inc.) on their Flex product line. He is involved with the design of the core framework itself as well as the designer/developer tools such as Flex Builder and Creative Suite. Although his primary focus is on design research, he also does some design work, promotes sound design practices both within Adobe and without, and makes himself a general pain in the necks of the designers, product managers, and engineers he works with.
Prior to Adobe, Rob worked in academia as a research assistant at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute (where he also matriculated) and in industry as the lead software engineer for a small consulting company's flagship web application. After his tenure at Adobe, Rob plans to develop a super-serum, rendering himself invincible, at which point he will take over the world. More information on these activities is available in his resume and his (hopelessly outdated) portfolio.
When not on the clock, Rob engages in a variety of extracurricular activities including (but not limited to): cooking, reading, experiencing nightlife, exploring the most beautiful city on Earth, imbibing fine beers and wines (in moderation), eating delicious food, traveling, working out, and referring to himself in the third person.
